Decision making for basketball clutch shots: A data driven approach

Decision making is considered one of the most important aspects for winning a basketball game. In final minutes game (clutch time), these decisions become even more crucial. particular –who shall take final, game-winning shots? While some coaches believe it team’s star, others may prefer ‘clutch’ player (who seemingly performs better in clutch or ‘hot’ who was having great that night. this work we study policy minutes. Specifically, introduce different policies choosing shot-taker (for example, according to field goal percentage). Then, compare and rank them create hierarchy, which serves as decision guide coach. We show when our recommendations are implemented (i.e., highest ranked takes shot) success rate significantly greater: 51.2%, compared 41.3% commonly taken shots.
